In my opinion, establishing credibility in public speaking relies heavily on a deep understanding of the topic, achieved through thorough research. This knowledge enables you to confidently address questions and earn the trust of your audience. Additionally, anticipating the audience's needs and concerns allows you to tailor your message, reinforcing your authority and making your presentation more impactful.

Analogize examples using interesting stories and facts that not directly related to your subject area. I once attended a talk which was based around the chidlrens books "The Moomins." The lessons were about managing through adversity but the links back to a familair and loved childrens series really firmed up the content and make the speaker much more relatable to me. I think it also shows professional confidence to do this too as opposed to delivering a series of personal stories that might come across as narcistisic if not done very carefully.

Sharing stories will come with them a touch of days, time, events, experiences and specifics which has a way of showing your journey to where you are at the moment and certifies that you can take some on the same journey with ease. One captain who trains everyday day, is better than 100 captains who have never trained before. Training gives you an experience which gives you a story.

In my opinion, sharing personal anecdotes or case studies related to your topic is a powerful way to establish authority. Storytelling is the key to hooking your audience as these stories make your presentation more engaging and provide evidence of your hands-on experience. Ensuring that your story has a clear connection to your main point helps humanize you, making you more relatable and trustworthy to your audience.

Asking questions and actively listening fosters a collaborative atmosphere, making the audience feel valued and respected. The sound of your voice matters. You may be the most brilliant or most experienced person in the room, but if the way you speak isn’t compelling it is likely what you’re saying is slipping through the cracks. Focus on speaking clearly, allowing your voice to sell forward and out. Avoid rushing through what you’re saying, which can also buy you time to breathe low. In fact, maintaining a low breath helps to keep your larynx stable, which helps you keep your vocal tract open - very important when it comes to creating deeper resonance in your voice!
