I almost never use a default template when building out a presentation! Everyone has seem the simple white slides with black text - bring in something fresh and new. If you're representing your company, rather than presenting as a solo contractor, make sure you've incorporated your companies' colours and branding on your slides.

The best presentations should feel like an equal exchange - the presenter is sharing the relevant information, but the audience still needs an opportunity to ask questions and connect the dots. Before every presentation in my speaker notes I prep different discovery questions on each slide. The questions you prep can be based on market trends, slide content (data, etc.), renewal prep, and more! These questions should start with "how", "why" or "what" - you never want people to just be able to answer "yes" or "no". When you ask more open ended questions you're creating opportunities for high quality discovery and discussion.

Everyone knows that practice is key, but the key with practicing any business based presentation is the preparation required in building out flexibility. There have been presentations I've had with executives where we don't make it past the third slide because the conversation is so rich - while in other cases I've finished a 2 hour presentation in 45 minutes due to the audience not being responsive. You need to be prepared for these kinds of situations by practicing different audience engagement techniques, lining up great discovery questions, and by mastering your ability to direct the conversation. Practicing a rigid presentation won't get you anywhere, you need to work on incorporating flexibility to create dynamic presentations.
