We spent some time developing a new way of using Generative AI to help them with a huge backlog of work and also improved quality by using their skills. They showed initiative because myself and others were willing to allow them to use their skill to better their job. We didn't try and micromanage them but rather, enabled their improvement by giving them the flexibility to grow.

I've found that when working with people you have to learn about them, their motivations, how they work, and what they are trying to accomplish before jumping into a project or even offering suggestions. Taking a few days of the sprint to discuss who they are, what their family is like, why were they successful in life, etc. really goes a long way to build a relationship and also a working partnership. Many times I will setup pairing sessions to work with them so I can know how they work. This helps me understand what product features we can take on with the current staff. Also, it helps me pair people together to reach the ultimate end state. Take time to know your co-workers or colleagues and you will find success.
