One thing that is also helpful to trust building is explaining the ‘what’s in it for me’ question for each and every team member. Make sure to hold space to hear their concerns or fears. Explain how it will change their duties and way of doing their job. Ask for their ideas and feedback how to do even better. The feeling of ownership of change is key.

It also takes courage on part of your as leader— it means being vulnerable enough to try something that has not been questioned before or considered. It means you might fail at a challenge facing you as a leader. Read that again: you might fail. And that is okay, you are human. How you demonstrate and communicate to your team that you failed, that’s it’s okay, because you learned ‘x’. You are living what resilient leadership is. Remember, actions speak louder than words.

Resilience makes me think of being GRITTY. Choosing to not give up, to get up after you are metaphorically laying bloody on the arena floor. Some choose to flee & not turn to try again. This is YOUR choice. As a leader, people are watching you always.....& what you say as a leader matters MUCH LESS than what you DO as a leader. For some team members, watching someone struggle is uncomfortable. Seeing their leader pick themselves up & try again can be empowering, only once they get past the discomfort. This is a learning moment as a leader--helping your team members ID how they cope & react (usually learned in childhood). Remember the 4 F's? Fight, flee, fawn or freeze. What is your reaction to seeing your leader struggle?
