First, is the problem relevant to work? If not, kick it out of the workplace. If it is relevant, is there a solution that satisfies everyone? Is the solution testable? Get unbiased feedback and agree to follow the data. Lastly, what is the cost of being wrong? If cost is minimal, allow people to make mistakes and worry about corrections later. If it is not minimal, then management should step in and take responsibility.
