One of my favorite quotes from a past leader is "your team will flex how you flex". If you trust your admin's leadership, your team will also. Once the admin professional has that credibility, they can help be a driving force in embracing and influencing team culture.

My boss, the President of the corporation always included me in "team management" meetings. He made sure that I was in the loop the same as any of the other managers. But also, I was also included in with the hourly team meetings, that way, I could act as a liaison between management and hourly employees. I also participated in coaching the company's softball team, and we began a tradition at Christmas, during the hourly employees Christmas dinner, the entire management team served the hourly employees.. We implemented many team building activities, too many to mention, but bottom line, a administrative assistant can become invaluable to a company's team building, and can become the glue that binds all aspects of the company together.

As a hospital administrator, I delegated tasks to subordinates that did not require my direct supervision, empowering them to take full ownership and manage these responsibilities independently. I communicated that they were in charge, which significantly boosted their enthusiasm and commitment, even for smaller tasks. This approach fostered a sense of responsibility and allowed them to demonstrate their capabilities. I believe that constant oversight stifles creativity and creates a fear-driven environment, while autonomy encourages innovation and confidence in team members.

I have to say, I was blessed to work for the President of the Corporation that I worked for.. I was trusted with everything I ever needed or wanted, my boss and I would brain storm everyday, on things that would benefit the workers and the corporation. We implemented small interest free loans ($250) for the employees, with a good attendance record, and they could have the payback automatically deducted in payments of $25-50. This helped the workers, including management, to have money for unplanned emergencies. We also began personal, professional counseling for those going thru personal problems such as divorce, etc.. That way, employees had less down time and were encouraged to come to work.
