As the pioneer Head of Department, Mechatronics Engineering, Federal University of Technology Owerri, we were faced with the challenges of improving on the nationally adopted curriculum for the mechatronics Engineering discipline but were able to navigate through by introducing options that included: 1. Robotics and Automation 2. Computer Systems and Software Development 3. Control and Drives The innovations enabled the department to emerge as best managed engineering department in the institution by COREN (national engineering regulatory body).

This will help in bridging the gap between academic research and practice, and between invention and commercialization/prototyping.

In the business of drug discovery failure is the norm, successes are rare. To be successful, it is important not to be beaten down by the failures that you can't control. Rather focus on what you can control: You can control which molecule you make next, you can control which experiment you prioritize, you can control how you carry yourself! Make these choices wisely and if you face failure analyze what went wrong and try to avoid making the same mistake twice. Run this killer experiment and decide what you do in different scenarios BEFORE you know the outcome. If you kill the project based on the result from the "killer experiment" you might save your company a lot of money and also a resource that is very rare and can't be won back: Time!

I couldn't agree more. It is always imperative to analyze the successes and failures of research. Such an act reaffirms the confidence you have in the research, opens you up to what went wrong and informs you of what more could have been done. It's amazing how breakthroughs come from unexpected places, like analysing wrongs. Resilience is key in all these.

Failing is difficult, uncomfortable, and sometimes painful but it can teach a powerful lesson. Failing provides an opportunity to learn and grow as individuals. Do not hide in shame but rather embrace failure by accepting responsibility, learning from mistakes, and working towards correcting them. This in turn will ultimately lead to success. In my opinion, failure is not the worst thing, quitting is.
