We live in a new world now, eons away from the bad old days of hazing and apprentice abuse that were the norm when I entered industry. Today's apprentices are the trade and management team of the future - treat these folk with decency and respect, positive reinforcement but also frank advice when things could be done better. Never forget that the next generation will inherit the future, so set them up for success sharing your own life experiences.
