Then shut up and wait to be asked something, anything. Wordiness translates into weakness and lack of intellect. Silences portray thought and intellect even when you may be simply worried or scared. They already want your work, or what they know about it. You're there to see if they want you with the work, the two are inseparable.

As a writer, there are certain things that you do as a part of your writing process. Some of these things might have come organically to you and some you may have acquired through learning. It is essential that you are able to outline your writing process in the form of a blueprint to the interviewer. In the Prep Work stage, discuss how you capture the brief and the requirements. For example, is it the first draft, second draft or final draft? Paying attention to detail in each phase ensures a well written finished draft.

When discussing your revision stage with the interviewer, state how you seek feedback from your Editor and how you ask questions to get full clarity on what needs to be changed in the draft. Speak about taking down review points in your notebook or directly highlighting the points in your draft. Also, elaborate on how you work with the feedback received. Explain how you incorporate the review points into your writing and improve the final output. Take a minute to share your attitude towards constructive criticism and how it helps you improve your writing skills for the better.

Discuss how you collaborate with others during the writing process. Talk about how you communicate with editors, co-authors, or clients, and how you incorporate feedback and revisions into your work. Emphasize your ability to work effectively as part of a team while maintaining your individual voice and style.

Taking constructive criticism for each draft phase helps the process move along. Carefully consider each comment and incorporate those suggestions and additions into your work. In the end, you'll have a final project with input in all leaders and team members who contributed to the writing project.

Constructive feedback is gold! It helps me refine my writing, see things from new perspectives, and constantly improve. When I receive feedback, I first take a step back to understand the context and intent behind the suggestions. Then, I evaluate each point carefully, considering its potential impact on the overall effectiveness of the writing. ?? Ultimately, I see myself as a collaborator, not a solo act. If the feedback aligns with the project's goals and improves clarity or impact, I'm all ears! I believe the best work comes from open communication and a willingness to learn from each other.

Speak about your attitude towards feedback, elaborate on how you remain neutral and understand the perspective of the Editor and the ultimate demands of the client or final output expected. I definitely love getting feedbacks from my writing. Whether good or bad, I welcome them with open arms. Although getting negative feedbacks hurt, they shape my writing as I make sure to not repeat the same mistakes. I write on a large piece of paper the words "IT'S NOT PERSONAL" and put it up where I can see it when I'm going over critique or notes from someone. I remind myself pretty constantly that my self-worth is not attached to the project, and every assignment is a chance to improve and learn something new about the process and myself.

Ah! The artistic part of your writing process. In my opinion, writers are one of the most underrated artists. We weave a picture simply with words. This is a tough and challenging role, especially when you do it day in and out. In an interview, it is okay to showcase your quirky side, when discussing your writing process. You can vocalize how you “get into the zone” or how you overcome the dreaded writer’s block. This part of the interview is your chance to present your “writer personality” to the interviewer. Let your inner geek and artist shine!

You could add in some personal touches when discussing your writing process. This is to show your uniqueness as a writer. You could tell the interviewer how you get your inspiration. This is to show that you do have original ideas. You could also add in what things that you need to do in order to concentrate on your writing. This is to show how serious you are when it comes to writing.

Always stay open to attending conferences and joining writers groups. You'll find the best input from fellow writers, especially writers who know and understand the pitfalls of writing and drafting final documents.

It can help if you carefully consider how your process works most of the time. It is true that we adapt to the writing project on ground and have to be innovative when writing, however, there are; basic, foundational things we always adhere to on individual basis that make our styles distinct. Write out these processes as they relate to you in snippets; point by point using the most succinct means of description. Haven done the above, reconsider why you think those points work for you and why you use them. Completing this exercise will help you have a full grasp of your writing process and make it easy for your effective presentation during your interview.

Be yourself. You know your work, each storyline, each character in that storyline -- after all -- you created all of it, so who better to discuss it in an interview, or in any other venue?

If you are asked to explain your writing method, I suggest you start by telling a story about a recent writing project you worked on or a writing project that you found memorable. Explain step by step, highlight the parts that you consider important and don't forget to explain which steps you think still need to be improved and how you would do them if you were given another chance. This way you have practiced storytelling to those interviewing you. Generally, interviews with real stories like this are more lively and get into substantive matters more quickly.
