From experience, I will say, one character trait is key: the ability to listen, understand and empathize with your client. Skills can be taught and sharpened in time.

I Literally got into RE while at a family BBQ about 15 years ago. My Cuz pulled up in a new SL 500. I said, Joe, I thought you were an ex-ray tech. My 1st month I flipped a contract for 19k. At that moment I realized there is money in this. All I did was look at a property, run the comps, and got a reno budget, easy. Next deal while I was just about to sign the contract on a house in Glenn Cove LI. a truck pulls up.The realtor says, may I help you? Nope says the driver with a lock, its going into foreclosure. I grabbed the contract and offered 100k less, got it, Talk about timing. At that point I knew the universe was telling me, RE is my calling. Well, 500 deals later, ( 15 in LI the rest in Cleveland) there is nothing I have not done.

What is one of the most stressful areas of Real Estate? The mortgage process. Realtors are painfully unaware of how loans actually work. When a realtor is open to my training, it can change their whole career!

One thing I found useful when writing a resume is to list down the achievements that you have made in previous organisations, which you have worked with. For example, if you have achieved cost saving or increased productivity in certain initiatives, these should be listed stated in the resume. The recruiter goes through tens or hundreds of resumes everyday, an impressive resume must contain key attributes for the job applied for and which will resonate with the recruiter. One thing I’ve found helpful is building a network of realtors as well helps my business. Adding other realtors to my database goes a long way to building relationships and when we know each other, we support one another. It’s just as vital as reaching out and meeting more and more people to work with and add to our client base. Through the years I have become a mentor to more and more junior realtors. While Knowledge is King far beyond that, in real estate Experience is King! Having the experience of learning from different transactions about what can rear its head to derail a sale, gives you tremendous power to work that situation successfully. A good team is almost essential these days. Clients want a continuity in care. Being able to resolve repair issues, direct them to lending solutions, have a constant point of contact, knowledgeable title agent, etc. The least successful agents I see are those that hand the baton back to the client "you need to find a repair person for this". Be the advocate, and have the connections to do so.
