Learn to observe what each individual wants and needs. Even when we understand personality types, we can still have biased responses. But unbiased sensory perceptive clues can rarely be wrong. Learn to watch body language, especially subtle movements and cues. #Observation is the finesse to register sensory inputs, while being aware of the context, content, emotions and consequences for everyone involved. A great observer is a multilayered radar. When working with people with a foundational level of awareness and a practice of reflection, I prefer them to self-identify and share who they think they are. This tells you a lot more about themselves, their narrative that creates the lens through which they look.

Communicating with someone is a process of two directions. Listening deeply to the other person as if it was a gift of attention allows you to observe your own thinking and committing back to not working on answers already. Active listening also helps you avoid putting people in boxes. As said above, I prefer when people self identify rather than listening to a personality test.

An important component of active listening is looping back what you hear the other person say. This allows for alignment as the other person can respond by more clarifying or adding to what you loop back. It also is a simple tool of leading by example that people can take up if they feel it is useful.

Emotional intelligence starts by practicing awareness about your own thinking and emotions within a conversation and choosing to opt this in or out.

Emotional intelligence (EQ) is the ability to understand and manage one's own emotions, as well as to recognize and influence the emotions of others. High EQ is invaluable in communicating with various personality types, as it allows one to sense emotional undercurrents and respond appropriately. For instance, if frustration is detected in a team member, it can be addressed directly, and the approach can be adjusted to alleviate their concerns. Developing EQ requires self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills, all of which contribute to more nuanced and effective communication.

Rational thinking requires emotional awareness and intelligence. Most of us are driven by emotions. Therefore, to get in a state where we can make rational decision-making, we must understand and work with our emotions. This doesn’t mean void emotion or try to suppress them. It means understanding where those emotional drivers behind your decisions come from. - What assumptions or meanings are you making about the situation? - What meanings are you making about yourself? - What lets you know a specific course of action is good or bad? Every emotion communicates a message. It’s the first language we learn before we could communicate in words.

You can rapidly grow personally and professionally if you just learn sales. Especially if sales is not in your domain of comfort. Sales will force you to quickly learn new communication styles, and, the feedback about success/failure is very instant: you either were rejected or the sales processed moved forward to a close ($). Furthermore, you will be forced to confront your irrational fears and insecurities that block you from being an effective communicator and influencer: this will pay incredible dividends for your career.

Patience is indeed vital, but have we considered that it also opens a “Spiritual Dimension” to our interactions? By giving others time, we honor their journey and presence. This creates a sacred space where everyone feels genuinely valued. Each personality type brings unique lessons and wisdom. Through patience, we not only foster better collaboration but also deepen our own understanding of the human experience. True communication happens when we see each other not just as colleagues but as united souls on a shared path.

In my opinion, patience is an overlooked virtue in general! By knowing what different personality types needs, I try to practice focused patience: - Analytical types: Give them time to process information & provide detailed answers - People centric types: Listen actively and allow space for them to express their thoughts and feelings without rushing or interrupting - Drivers: Stay calm & focused, even if they’re impatient or direct - Expressive types: Let them share stories and ideas & allow for their emotional expressions When I adapt my style that might mean: - I need to make a deliberate pause so others have enough time to think & respond - I let the conversation linger longer in the emotional space than I would normally choose to

Communication is a four way street. Active, passive, actively passive and passively active. How and when you can generate the interest triggers how best you will be understood by the means of communication used / adapted by you..

They say we have two ears and one mouth for a reason. We should listen twice as hard and twice as much as our need to talk. You don't have to know their personality type or psychometric testing results. By listening really closely to the words people use, you'll get a good idea of what their preferences are and be able to match that... e.g. 'I see that...' or, 'I can picture the outcome' (visual)... 'it sounds like' (auditory) etc. You can then 'paint the picture' or 'tell the story' to best suit the individual you're speaking to. But possibly the best way to effectively communicate is to ask clarifying questions... 'can I check if I'm understanding you correctly?' then offer your understanding and wait for them to confirm or clarify.
