Are there AI tools that encourage creativity and originality in children's writing?
My answer to the submitted question:
When you use the word tool you encourage the mindless use of AI. This led to the hoopla about students using AI to write their papers. Get rid of AI?? No!! Use the AI tool properly. Start with the AI paper and give the student the assignment of making it better. AI is not a crutch, rather it provides a challenge.
Use the tool function of AI to create the challenge, but then provide the natural language capacity so that AI can be a 24/7 assistant, partner, guide, as the student completes the project. The conversation is recorded and the process of creating the project is available, along with the project itself.
The student can describe the personality of the partner. A big brother, a super hero, etc. When I was exploring the AI partner, I found I could control its typical behavior. I used the same prompt to create assistants on different models AI and posted them. You can see the diversity of assistants and the “creativity” of AI. This may seem like play, but it is playing by writing. Learning to describe a person is more than playing. Creating an Assistant
Using AI graphic programs encourages the student to write prompts to create images. They have defined the personality of the assistant, and now we can create the image of the ally. Creating the ally with words gives experience about the way people act, and now they can create how they look. All by writing.
AI can not only guide the student, it can also evaluate the work. I asked ChatGPT to evaluate a short piece I did, and I was amazed at the quality of the evaluation. I know that AI is biased to be favorable to us, so I asked for a Devil’s Advocate evaluation. It did that. You can see the whole conversation at Original Quora Post

While the question specifies children, using AI in writing is most certainly not limited to children. You saw the evaluation it did on my piece. I have been using it to evaluate and make changes in errors or clarity.
I have always been a scientific writer rather than an entertainer. But I created an original play in collaboration with ChatGPT and Bard. I wrote the plot and flow of scenes and they wrote the dialogue as Sherlock Holmes (Chat) and Mark Twain (Bard) as they visit London and New Orleans.
It is meant to be a proof of concept, not a finished product. The concept is proven, but is the solution too simple?
