Helping others is a needed value in many roles. Volunteering and putting your values to practice allows you to make greater connections that lead you to more opportunities and a greater network.

For me, personally volunteering has opened doors to all sorts of job possibilities, introduced me to some truly inspiring people, and expanded my horizons in ways I never expected. I still remember my first volunteering opputunity; I was nervous, no question, but I decided to take the plunge and go for it. And I'm so glad I did! Volunteering in organizations shows the best insights into a particular work environment conjoined with warmth and compassion if its a community. It did not just give me a glimpse into different industries and jobs; it's fueled my passion to keep exploring and taking on new challenges, knowing that every experience brings growth and learning.

An example I've seen is the young men and women we worked with in Hongkong, we've shared many insights into proffesionals multicultural environments. Many have go on to find or create careers in different spheres of life. Most shared that the training they received under our mentorship was invaluable.

Every volunteering role I did, has brought a unique experience to my life and career path. In those roles you encounter tasks you would never do - like unloading trucks with donated items on the border of Ukraine and Poland. You also meet a lot of like minded people, who are genuinely ready to help. Sometimes, those people become life long friends too. So yes, volunteering not only brings you out of your comfort zone, but also sparks the good inside your heart.

Na minha experiência, hoje em dia, os jovens n?o est?o muito inclinados a dedicar seu tempo como voluntários, principalmente aqui em Angola. Est?o mais inclinados para uma experiência de estágio e, por vezes, remunerados, para logo de início obterem uma chance de mostrarem as suas habilidades e firmarem-se já com um emprego sólido desde cedo. Acredito que a situa??o econ?mica de uma determinada localidade também determina o que realmente estes jovens procuram para as suas vidas no início da carreira

As competências que podemos adquirir realizando voluntariado, s?o as mais diversas. Podemos aprender a fazer gest?o de tempo, planejamento, e muito fortemente trabalharmos habilidades na área de gest?o de pessoas como: empatia, comunica??o, resolu??o de conflitos, conversas difíceis.

One thing I've come to understand is that people are great vehicles into getting into your next stage and possess vital information on where you desire to be. You may not know that person in that company directly but you may know someone who knows that person. Through networking you're able to discuss trends, get to know people and what they do in terms of roles and industries they work in. In that way, you can get to ask questions and you may never know it could also lead to mentoring opportunities and you'd find yourself climbing the ladder at a faster pace. Network in conferences, in meetings, career fairs and all, a person seeking to build a career doesn't stick to themselves or only what they know, they go out for more.
