Being adaptable is one of the main transferable skills a H/S Professional should try to master. In my experience you don't have to be an expert in anything, but should be both willing and open to learning other professions. Importantly, my soft skills have significantly developed over the last few years as I have had to adapt from a role of enforcing H/S to being a mentor, therapist, coordinator and leader as the culture of the site has developed. So, although the technical side of H/S is very important and is what helps grow your credentials and accountability, your ability to effectively communicate, listen, engage and support the team relies heavily on your ability to adapt and grow softer skills.
