If you want a story, stories will come find you. They will be right around you. Maybe not the story that you think will be viable, but they will be the story that commands your attention. That is the heart of the process. That's not where you end. That's where you begin.

This one is key. If you want to showcase your creative flair, you need to get out there and demonstrate it. It doesn’t matter how big, or how small, or if a specific project demonstrates everything you have to say or just one element of it. At the end of the day, you can’t show it if you don’t have examples, so the biggest advice is to get out there, shoot, create, write, and produce whatever it is (big or small), create your style and build your portfolio. It takes time to find your voice, so get out there and explore. Find out what you want to say.

As a media professional, I firmly believe that a strong portfolio is essential for showcasing one's expertise and capabilities. With this in mind, I took the significant step of launching my own website, featuring a selection of projects that demonstrate my skills & experience. I have made a conscious effort to establish a visible digital footprint, ensuring that my online presence is professional and up-to-date. Furthermore, I have made a commitment to document and share my projects and activities, no matter how big or small, through various newspaper brands & online platforms. This strategic approach has not only beginning to enhance my visibility but has also enabled me to build credibility & attract potential clients & collaborators.

As a marketing coordinator, I focused on building a diverse portfolio of writing samples. From crafting newsletters and social media content to blogs and promotional materials, each piece was refined through feedback and iteration. Building a portfolio is like painting a self-portrait which will enlighten the world about you and your craft. Oftentimes, people find it difficult to find great pieces of their achievements and work to be featured in their portfolio. I've some tips below you can follow- 1. Find current trending topics in your niche and create work around that. 2. Even if you have 100-150 separate projects, filter them and only pick 5-10 best of the projects to be featured in your portfolio. 3. Share a personal story that people can connect and relate to, have a theme, and don't just dump random work. 4. Research and brainstorm ideas and topics that will get good exposure in the coming times, it will help you future-proof your work.

Start online and make it a project - yes, you are not getting paid for it and at the beginning it might seem like your audience is small. What will make the difference is consistency. Be present, be active, be generous. Build a personal brand that will be recognisable. It's best to start building this while still in education, but it's never too late. Don't gate keep your creative potential if you want a foot in advertising. Your online presence and your ability to engage audiences will be your strongest asset and will give you an advantage over other candidates when you finally do land that job offer.

Hmmm... I may be missing the point here. But what the heck............To open doors work and connect, period. As crew oriented producer who started with Spelling TV as an assistant accountant in the day and then worked worked as a PA on Tigerland and Sunshine State to earn my stripes. Allot has to do with who you know! But putting in your dues and learning on the job, shines. Pro bono on any project will allow you to place the job and project on your resume/CV. With the name of your coordinator or producer for contacting. I hire grunts/crew who work their craft first. Want to create and write...well do it. So break a leg. It is all an adventure.
