Here's how you can demonstrate your industry knowledge during an interview.

Weather you are a fresher or experienced candidate, sector knowledge is a must. Recruiter will always prefer someone who has gained industry knowledge by actually working in the industry. For experienced candidates, discussion is often about prior work experience or what challenges you faced in your job role. This does not mean that fresher can not have industry knowledge. Fresher must do homework, he or she must do own research, talk to experienced people of that industry. Find out what is expected from a fresher in that area. Try to do internship in some company, if not getting internship then do some self project. Idea is to showcase that you have done some work. Resume should have some project, internship or self project. Be talk ready.

It's very important that for any such interactions need to prepare according to the current landscape of organization and the next 3-5 years roadmap in which my role will contribute. About the Organization is readily available information on multiple websites but preparing as per companies roadmap with some research and connections with that vertical, will add more interest during discussion.

It's like the Scouts motto: Be prepared. You'd be surprised by how few people go into interviews underprepared. They are able to talk about what they do, how they do it, how they measure it (even that part is a stretch sometimes) but forget that there's a bigger picture to consider. Read industry publications, source information about the company you're interviewing at and also the people, and what's the latest in the industry. Be prepared with your thoughts around this too.

Jargon are getting used only to explain thoughts in better way, during interviews it should get used very smartly and only when its required, pareto laws applies here also, 20% audiences only understand the jargon as per reference points, Remaining 80% just focusing on asked points.

There is nothing worse than interviewing someone who almost has a bingo card of jargon, abbreviations and technical terms they need to tick off. You can still sound knowledgeable by using the appropriate industry words and abbreviations - but make sure they are well placed and appropriate for your audience. The first person you meet might not necessarily understand what you do! Just be yourself and talk how you would in a normal setting...well a normal work setting anyway.

Explanation about experiences always attracts the attention of listeners, best way to explain any skill is to explain with the examples from past experiences and this will definitely add more advantage then any specific point to point answer.

You can't go past the STAR method when it comes to showcasing what you can do - most people nail the S (situation) and T (task) part but race over the A (actions) and completely miss the R (results). This is where the good stuff lies and where your interviewer is wanting to see you shine. It's all about using your experiences to show results and build a bridge between your current and future self!

Offering something extra on plate always gives option to choose wisely for the role, so apart from answering the asked points put few best extra suggestions as per past experiences during such interaction will definitely add value.

Coming up with future challenges and how you would solve them will 100% set you apart from your peers - and leave a lasting impression on your interviewer. Think of it again like bridging the past to the future - you're in the interview talking about all the things you have DONE and the person sitting across has the future in mind - what is the person going to DO for us? I like being able to talk about "here's what I did at XYZ business and achieved these results" and then going on to "here's what I see as your problem and here's what I'd do to solve it, and impact the bottom line".

Take the time to be strategic in what questions you ask during an interview. The amount of time I hear people ask "so what's the salary for this role" (you should already know this) or my absolute PET HATE - "do you have any other candidates in the mix for this role?"....urggghhh such a waste of time and leaves the interviewer thinking about the other people when you want the focus to be on YOU! Think about questions that will allow you to add insight with an answer to your interviewers answer.

Asking few company insights and about the vision or growth strategies will give some idea about the how you want to take this opportunity ahead. Always Asking some questions relating to how keen you are for that particular role.

After the interview, send a thank you note and use this opportunity to reiterate your interest. Briefly touch upon the latest industry trend that may impact the company's goals (make sure to check the news!). A thoughtful and smart follow-up can reinforce your expertise and leave a positive, lasting impression.
