It's not about relinquishing your control as a leader to your managers. Put a process in place that helps you to delegate control. The process should be inclusive of establishing clarity and accountability. Time box decisions and insist on your managers reporting back to you the outcome of each decision. That's a great opportunity for you to coach and improve.

Training the team is a constant work of the leadership, having the objectives of the training very clear, in order to engage and direct employees towards an evolution that generates value and not just status.

Monitoring must be applied every 3 months with employees, with results presented and continuous improvement actions applied for individual evolution and growth that directly affects collective growth, bringing significant results.

The most overlooked and missed out part. Have a tight dashboard that highlights exceptions and then roll it down to detailed task management tracking using trello or monday.com or other tools. Each owner is accountable for his or her task. Each manager is accountable for his or her team tasks. This is very very important. Everything runs on a deadline and who is accountable.

Delegating decision making depends on some variables such as: What type of decision is being delegated. It is strategic, tactical, operational, what value is involved, what is the level of risk in the decision. Delegating decision making is not the same as delegating one function or another. As a manager you make decisions. As a manager, I prefer to simply share the entire decision process with my team of experts, but decision-making is my sole responsibility. It is even part of my role as a leader.

Pick the right person (smart, flexible, self-motivated, thinks “how I can” not “why I can’t”. Tell them what success looks like. Give them as few guidelines as you can - let them run. Provide help when requested. Have a way to monitor key success elements.

Remember that it’s ok to fail. You’ve got to allow people to not always get it right as a manager. Why? Because it’s often how we learn the best. If we only succeed and haven’t dealt with any challenges or when things go wrong, then you’re missing the opportunity to problem solve, apply critical thinking and learn from failure. So when delegating, it is your responsibility as a manager to ensure your team know you’ll support them. In addition to this, share you knowledge. Employ mentoring and coaching techniques to set the delegated individual up for success (as much as possible). Remember too that the number one role as a leader is to develop & grow others. (In my opinion anyway)

7. Encouragement The 6 Subject areas discussed so far are great, yet, I would like to add Encouragement as a factor #7. A great Manager or Leader should act beyond having expectations, assigning roles and responsibilities, and so on as many of those management activities can be performed by an "AI manager" already. A human-oriented factor needs to be added to a skills set of a Manager who is on the mission to build an effective and enthusiastic team consisting of humans.
