My Marketing professor once told me that because of the marketing field's constant change and increasing emphasis on data, it is (relatively) easy for Finance and/or Accounting business majors to transition to this field. You'll never become a marketing expert by burying yourself in textbooks forever (though they provide an excellent foundation). You have to learn and experiment in the "real world," even if you simply post daily on LinkedIn and track engagement metrics.

One other thing to consider is the industry you're wanting to work in. Niching down and specializing can help you stand out in your ideal space and open more doors. I made the move to the B2B tech space a few years ago by building out my portfolio and was able to land my first job in tech. Since then, I have been able to continue building and growing in that space. Niching is very important in the social media field.
