So be enthusiastic! Sit up, smile (even if you are not on camera), and enjoy what you are doing. Take a cue from performers, who always take a few deep breaths to center themselves before going on stage. You got this. Extra points: if you are lucky enough to have a global role, or serve a diverse client base, make sure you have done your cultural homework before you meet. Greetings, personal space boundaries, cultural norms should be noted in advance. And of course, make sure you pronounce names correctly (including honorifics or other styles of address).

The most important skill of all. Active listening means you are giving your undivided attention to the speaker. Not thinking about what you are going to say, or checking your flight, or scribbling notes. It's you, and the speaker. Ask the speaker to verify what you think you have heard. Use phrases like "Am I understanding you correctly? You mentioned X, and that's important to you because of Y" to get the speaker to validate what you have heard.

The trick is to know when to use the right questions: Examples: Open-ended questions: "What challenges are you currently facing in your business?" Closed questions: "Are you satisfied with your current supplier?" Alternative questions: "Would you prefer delivery on Monday or Wednesday?" Suggestive questions: "Do you think our product could increase your efficiency?" Reflective questions: "If I understand you correctly, is the quality of the product particularly important to you?" Need-oriented questions: "What is most important to you when selecting a new supplier?" Problem-oriented questions: "What difficulties are you having with your current solution?"

Letting the customer know that they’ve been heard and understood is very important. You can put your point across only after you’ve demonstrated that you’ve listened to, understood and addressed their concerns. That’s the case whether they be about your product/service or the issues the customers is experiencing. So, active listening, empathy and spending time deviating from the pitch to understand their issue in detail.

Take feedback even from your parents,friends & your boss! Feedback is essential to everything. It is the "reflection" that we leave on a person regarding our self. There will always be positive & negative feedbacks. Positives because you did something for someone. Negatives because you could not do THAT something for someone, and it goes on. It is up to us to use all the feedback we get and improve ourselves for the best! Getting feedback does not mean that you are not self assured, or do not believe in yourself. It is important to know how you reflect to others, especially in business environments.

You Reap what you sow! Do the most you can, show commitment. If others around you are bored of working or just wait for those 8 hours to pass by so the go home. Do NOT be that person. It may be hard to see someone doing less and you working hard, BUT you will be the one that will get the raise/promotion and the congratulations, it just needs patience. Be the one that is always happy to take on a new task, to help another team member, to provide your knowledge regarding a subject. Get involved as much as you can!

One rule that I highly recommend is to minimize the use of acronyms as much as possible. Sure some uber common ones can be used here and there, but there are often times acronyms that are specific to that company/vendor, industry, etc., that could create confusion in meetings, documents or meeting notes. Using full words not only eliminates confusion, but also translates to assertiveness as well.
