To build a strong network it's important to understand what your goals and objectives are from this - what is the outcome that you are looking for. Examples of outcomes could be 1) Collaborations and Partnerships 2) Learning from others 3) Getting new clients 4) Finding others who can support you on your journey or vice versa. Or it could be all of these. Building relationships is a key part of business and critical to business growth. But networking can take a lot of time and energy so it's important to establish what you want to get out of it. And that results from networking takes time.

I would say it goes beyond goals....goals are great, and they absolutely measure where you are at in terms of progress. And I would suggest that the key area you need to define is VALUES. Understanding and landing values with which you will build those support connections, identify who will be the best personalities in that network and how best you can communicate your needs with them, is a vital first step. Then goals fall quite easily and simply from this as the infrastructure of that support network is pulling in the same direction.

Professionally, if something feels uncomfortable, do it (within reason). As a brand, you should constantly strive to innovate and attract new eyeballs. It's good to try something new!

Networking is give and take. Always look for ways to help out—share resources, provide feedback, or make introductions. Being generous pays off, as people are more likely to help you back, making your network stronger.

Connect people… it’s a way of giving, whilst also of demonstrating you understand other people’s wants and needs and not just your own. When you listen to others and their problems, often a person who can help comes to mind… make the intro, neither party will forget you.

Reach out to people in your field. Have something real and interesting to offer, not just take. Be authentic. Try to understand the other person's needs and constraints. You're having a conversation first. You will eventually find work and peer relationships, and many times even new friends, or at least people you love to see at events. This makes networking and working in an industry much more fulfilling no matter where your career takes you.
