I am currently crafting a communication plan for a large conference we host and identifying what channels work towards which audience is key. Launching the press release at the right time to hit media outlets, mailings hitting at a time when individuals are considering which conferences to attend, social posts to grab attention and encourage click-thru and at times appropriate on various platforms, and advertising to hit specific targeted demographics is necessary. Surveying previous attendees can inform this decision along with working back on a timeline from when the conference occurs. I always learn from and do better with my marketing goals when I start at the date of the conference and work backwards with a communication strategy.

Timeline planning is key! But be sure to allow for some deviations in the schedule. Earlier on in my career my timelines were a little too tight and a bit too rigid which didn't allow for any missteps or delayed processes - and that didn't only derail my communications plan but my sanity as well ??. Plan for success - and that means leaving space for errors, delays and mishaps.
