Resistance to change is very common in all kind of enterprises. Sometimes people have fear to the change or simply they don’t like the idea that lose their comfort zone. But an important thing to take in account is the mentality of the heads. It’s very common that the resistance to the change comes from erratic ideas like “if it works fine, don’t touch it”. Probably these ideas can come from people with enough authority to stop the change. So I think it’s important to take in account that every change it’s going to generate resistance and we will have to learn to deal with that kind of people and barriers.

This article doesn't really capture the major fear factor that I see in resistance to change. It's not fear of failure or failure of success. It's deeper than that. People become experts on their environment, and they then derive their sense of identity, purpose, and self-worth from their expertise on that environment. They are defined by what they know. And you want to come in and change that environment. It is being done to their environment, it is being done to them. You are unwittingly attacking their sense of identity, purpose, and self-worth. You need to make sure they know their sense of identity, purpose, and self-worth is exclusively theirs, it's healthy, appreciated, and safe. Then you can improve the environment together.
