If you just remember that the skills taught to you, and learned over the years can be used in multiple different scenarios, you'll do great! Serving our patrons is the most important aspect of any library related job!

An example I've seen, is when someone gets a new position in a different department of that organization. There is a lot of growing pains between the new person and staff. Some smoother and others, but lead with integrity, fairness, honesty and respect. I think it could turn out to be a great blend.

One thing that helpful in terms of organizational maybe certain organisation can implement the current trend of technology such as AI this will be helpful in terms of helping the library services can be sustained

Educate, mentor, and provide the proper training that employees need to seamlessly ease into new processes. Make it a habit to do one-on-ones to check in on each employee, give them reassurance, get feedback, and find out how you can better support the employee to reach his or her new goals.

Strong communication skills can enhance user satisfaction, foster relationships, facilitate teamwork, promote the library's services, and strengthen your professional image. They're vital whether you're explaining how to use the online catalogue, conducting a library induction, advocating for resources, or collaborating on a project.

As someone who has done hiring and training - I consider willingness to learn, ability to take feedback, and “coachability” as skills in their own regard. I would rather hire someone who doesn’t yet have a specific technical skill but is generally competent and eager to learn than someone who has a specific technical skill who thinks they know everything. The biggest thing I’ve realized in my time as a Librarian is how much information is out there and how very little of it I actually know. Being a good Librarian isn’t about having all of the answers - it’s about knowing how/where to find them (and how to vet their validity).

An example I have seen in terms of customer services. The librarian needs to be more friendly to the patrons since they will often asking for new references based on to their needs. The implementation can be through soft skills such as communication skills. Librarians need to enhance their communication skills. Meanwhile, for the technology. These relationships have been crucial for my career growth, proving that networking isn't just beneficial—it's essential for thriving in the library field!

When I decided to make a career change into library services, maintaining a positive attitude became my anchor through the honestly tough transition. With any career change, you leave behind a bank of organisational knowledge, culture, customs, attitudes and familiarity - all of which can contribute to a feeling of comfort and confidence. It takes guts to let all that go and start over. But the payback is worth it, even if you don't realise this until later. Sharing your experiences and feelings with others who have made similar leaps, can be very reassuring and helpful.

Change is hard even when it’s good. If you have impostor syndrome, it’s even worse! Remember that your brain can lie to you—you are as good as they think you are, you CAN do this, and it’s normal to not know things and feel overwhelmed. Now that we got that out of the way, remember that, no matter how many years of experience you might have, you are new to this environment. You will not know where everything is… what all the policies and procedures are… or who everyone is. But give yourself time. When you start a new position (esp in a new place), recognize that you need time to adjust and learn. You will make mistakes, and that’s okay. And treat yourself the way you would a friend in the same situation—with compassion & understanding.

Be patient. My experience has shown that libraries can be insular families who don't always look outside their own to hire. Keep trying, volunteer to learn the layout, and you'll find that perfect fit eventually.
