I would strongly recommend joining GIS-related Slack Channels, Groups and other Communication Channels to remain connected with GIS professionals. It's such a small community in comparison to other, more developed communities and I believe your influence and voice can be seen and hard at this stage. You should also network as best you can, whether that be at in-person events, conferences and exhibitions or online workshops, LinkedIn network or by interacting with posts on LinkedIn.

Always the best kind of projects, I believe. They give you an idea of the big picture in the organisation as well as understanding the workflow. This in turn will allow you as the GIS professional to develop the ideal GIS tools and strategies for each department. Making the entire workflow process more efficient, providing data for strategic decision making and information/location intelligence to the big picture.
