To add to that, go a step further, when you are presenting your solutions - support them with data. Bring your boss numbers, how your solutions will make manufacturing process easier - whether the manufacturing time your solution will cut or the percentage of how much the quality will improve, once the solution is implemented.

Effective communication is a two way street and can be shown many ways: 1.Verbal 2.Non-verbal 3.Written 4.Listening/Hearing 5.Visuals Understand the problem, allow creativity/brainstorming, use data to drive solutions, and leaders should break down barriers. Lead from the front, check in regularly to find out, how they can help drive deliverables, "What can I help with or How can I help you accomplish this." This helps build the relationship, empowers the employee to own the solution, and it doesn't dictate forcing things. We hire employees as experts, allow them to creatively shine.

Put forward suggestions for better processes. Your job as an engineer does not stop just because the machines are working, your knowledge and experience are critical to how the rest of the business runs.
