If I’m teaching a skill I usually test , but also think about the individual. What was going on with them today? Do they have capacity to engage? Do they struggle with retention? I know if you’ve ever spoken in front of a room you’ve managed to find the one person who looks like they are thinking “I could have had a V8” but in my career that person has often come up to me afterwards and shared how impacted they were. My point is I think use as many methods as you can but also consider- the effectiveness or impact may be from the person who didn’t engage, didn’t do a survey and seemed unimpressed.
