The very idea of delegation is not just that the manager or leader does not have time to do it but, it is to let team members learn and become experts. True leadership is to create more leaders. So while setting goals for the team, leader should also set goals for self. It should include: 1. Creating an environment where team feels empowered and not merely fulfilling the leader's wish. 2. Helping the team with skills required 3. Ensuring freedom to make mistakes and learn from them 4. Ensuring creative ideas are experimented and appreciated 5. Giving due credit of the team for success.

Assess delegation effectiveness by setting clear, measurable goals for tasks. Track progress to ensure alignment with team objectives. Evaluate outcomes against initial goals and consider results quality. Consistent goal achievement indicates effective delegation. If goals aren't met, reassess the delegation process or task suitability for team members.

One thing I have learnt is that feedback in structured format is essential, however, leader should be aware of the feedback that comes in informal conversations. Identifying that you are receiving feedback from casual interactions is a quality. Putting it in the right perspective is a skill and using it for improvement is the ultimate capability of a leader.

In my experience, establishing a robust feedback mechanism is crucial. When we encourage team members to share their experiences, challenges, and suggestions related to the tasks delegated to them, it helps in understanding if the delegation process is clear, if the right tasks are being assigned to the right people, and if any adjustments are needed to enhance productivity and morale.

Assessing delegation effectiveness involves monitoring progress through clear objectives, regular check-ins, defined KPIs, feedback mechanisms, quality assurance, adaptability, outcome evaluation, employee development, stakeholder feedback, and thorough documentation. In my experience, by tracking these points, you can gauge the success of delegation efforts, ensure tasks are completed efficiently, and foster employee growth and satisfaction.

Give yourself freedom and encourage your team to be leaders in their responsibilities, don't control their tasks, introduce goals and help them achieve them without having to do it for them.

'Empowerment' is often used in a very casual way, however, its difficult to put in practice. It is to give the authority or power to someone to do something or perhaps better, the process of becoming stronger or more confident. Delegation is only complete when you realize two things. One, let go of your ego that only you can do it, second, accepting that someone can do much better than what you did. Significant indicator of an empowered team is to see if the members are 'whole-heartedly' working towards the delegated task. Also, how 'respected' do they feel owning the task. Are the team members able to overcome challenges on their own, discuss with each other and maintain a very healthy and cordial relationship amongst themselves?

A high empowerment index reflects not only their ability to take ownership but also their agility in navigating unforeseen circumstances. Measure how readily they embrace new tasks or pivot strategies, showcasing a deeper level of empowerment and trust. For example, observe how team members respond to sudden project alterations or market shifts, highlighting their resilience and readiness to take charge autonomously.

Not only exchanging the feedback but also a continuous analysis of the outcomes plays an important role here. Evaluating whether the delegated tasks are being completed on time, are within budget, and are they matching up to the desired quality standards. Looking at the broader impact on team performance, project milestones, and organizational goals will provide insights into the effectiveness of our delegation strategy and helps identify areas for improvement.

In my experience, impact and results are all what it is all about. Regardless of the length of a certain assignment or the approaches taken to complete it. Accomplishment is what matters.
