We can ask specific questions during the initial recruiter screen and again in the cultural interviews to assess candidates' leadership capabilities. Here are some questions that have proven effective for understanding a candidate’s leadership skills: Can you describe a time when you developed and implemented a strategic plan for a project or team? What was the outcome? How do you ensure that your team’s goals align with the company’s overall objectives? Tell me about a difficult decision you had to make with limited information. How did you approach it, and what was the result? Can you give an example of a time when you managed a conflict between team members? How did you handle it?

Do they have Executive Presence (The "Mojo")? Do you REALLY "buy" what they are "selling"? Are they a GREAT communicator? Were they on time, and exceedingly prepared? Do they project ownership mentality? Did you detect passion? Could you imagine running through a brick wall for them? Did they treat EVERYONE with respect? How many other people observed these traits in the candidate?
