Here's how you can apply problem solving skills to decision making in Business Administration.

First and foremost we should consider Problem Solving as an Opportunity than a Problem. We should initiate the process of investigation, requirement gathering, voice of customer to ascertain the problem definition. Then we should get down to the analysis, design and finding possible options for the opportunity at hand (Art of Possible). Weighing all the options with risks , et all will also give credibility to the thought process and solution we recommend. Last but not least, is to capture feedback, monitor the solution recommended in order to recommend course correction, if any required.

In the dynamic world of business, problem-solving skills are a cornerstone of success. Leaders face constant challenges that demand deep analysis, creativity, and a methodical approach to identify the root cause of problems and formulate effective solutions. The very first thing in my experience is to flag the issue and have every one in your team or organization to recognize the issue as a problem. Else all your efforts could go in vain. Because what you see as a problem, it might be business as usual for others.

Data collection can involve various sources, such as internal reports, customer surveys, market analysis, research studies, and historical data. Assess the reliability and validity of the collected information to ensure its accuracy and relevance to the problem at hand. Analyze solutions! Generate creative ideas, consider various viewpoints, and weigh each option's pros and cons. Look beyond technical/economic feasibility. Evaluate long-term impact on the organization, including alignment with strategy, customer satisfaction, social responsibility, and environmental sustainability. Use decision matrices and cost-benefit analysis to structure your evaluation and compare options objectively.

After evaluating all possible solutions, it's time to make a decision and act on it. This step requires confidence and sometimes a bit of courage, especially when the stakes are high. In business, decisiveness is valued, but it should always be coupled with sound judgment. Once a decision has been made, communicate it clearly to all stakeholders and put it into action with a well-defined plan.
