Well, this points to, perhaps, the most important question a designer should ask to any client. Do you really need an intranet mobile app? Why? It’s amazing how often we start designing apps, tools and other digital artifacts just to later realize (us and the client) how useless they are. Therefore, I would spend some time digging into the usefulness of the whole thing before racing to my laptop.

The key is to continually reassess and adapt your goals and audience definition based on feedback, analytics, and evolving trends in the industry or niche you're in. I'm a firm believer in market search and have hosted hundreds of gametests and focus groups. Your audience and network that already exists, is a great feedback funnel for you to refine what you build til there aren't complaints or confusion. Remember, you can't please everybody, but you can come pretty damn close.

Experience Design is so important on so many factors. From the moment someone lands on your site, what is the most important thing you want them to do, and then the next, and the next. Can they get to the finish line on their own? making sure all of this stuff is in the thought process of your build is super important.

Ten years ago, we used to design primarily for web, and then simplified the visuals and shortened the copy for a mobile version as an afterthought. Now that has flipped. If you are a website designer up-to-date with trends, you will design for mobile first. Simplified visuals and crisp succinct copy are the way to go. Also we need to design for the scroll: on the basis that it will be consumed vertically. Once you've designed for mobile, you might even decide that the same design works in web. I've seen designers do that. But never the other way round (never a web design first and a decision that the same design will work in mobile)

It’s good to test your mobile interface with multiple different phones because phone screen sizes can drastically change the way your interface looks.

Keeping in mind to provide an excellent customer EXPERIENCE. A responsive design is like choosing the right tool for the job. Prioritise designs that seamlessly adapt to various devices and ensuring that whether someone's accessing the intranet on a laptop, tablet, or smartphone, the user experience remains consistently excellent.

Saying more with less, rarely do I find people using word counters to shrink what they're saying, or chatgpt to rewrite it while you edit it. Think about allowing people to consume more with less thought, reading etc. This is why visuals work so great. Someone else posted Content Is King, but I say Content Is King, Distribution Is King Kong. How are you distributing your content to the audience, and is it too heady? Are you using visuals to offset text? Are your colors or font choices distracting or difficult to follow? All of this matters in optimizing of your content and functionality.

Keep it simple, yet powerful on both mobile and desktop. There's nothing more frustrating when all you have is mobile access (perhaps when traveling) and you're stuck using a system that is abridged on mobile.

Quality is the keyword for content and functionality. For mobile users is important create an app with a clear content, easy to read and navigate. I highly recommend use podcast format, the people can hear a podcast chapter during their running workout.

Design, make, test and analyse consistently. Even if you were able to design a perfect intranet now, it wouldn’t stay perfect for long. Your users needs will change.

Use the prexisting audiences you have to test your products/services. You'll get honest and real feedback because they care about you first, and want you to succeed beyond. Whereas typically incentivized feedback gives slanted resulted.

Testing is your secret weapon. The world BETA is your best friend here. Test across different devices and browsers and use your first batch of user's feedback to evolve, update in order to meet the users expectations.

So fill an intranet with content on the tool that's pretty much glued to people's hands (their phone): other cell #s, training resources, event calendars, forms (yes, even dreaded forms), departmental portals, etc. Cast a wider intranet and more people out there somewhere may actually open it.
