Here's how you can amplify your career in event production with effective communication skills.

A detail timeline and debriefing is crucial in ensuring everyone understands their role in executing a seamless event. Experience and or knowledge in troubleshooting the unexpected is also a must strategy to be communicated.

Attendee tracking is crucial if you’re looking to host events where the point is to gain some level of ROI, or even better, if you run a series of events. Tracking attendees can be as easy as knowing if they registered online or not, or as finely details as heatmapping the event floor so you know which booth was most popular and so on. While attendee tracking can get very eerie with how grossly details it can be with facial recognition making it’s way into very large event spaces so it can both check you in and track where you’ve been, who you spoke with, and when spoke to them, it’s probably something out of your league.

Vendor relationships is key! As much as we don't want to admit it, occasionally a fire will pop up the day of our long awaited event, good relationships with your vendors will solve 99.9% of these problems. Lead with kindness and humility and you will easily be in the top 10% of event managers in the country. As the saying goes, people don't always remember what you have done for them but they will always remember how you made them feel!

Any idea is welcome, no matter how crazy it may seem. Understand that knowing how to listen to the ideas of team members, your client and other partners could be the thing that was missing to make the event special. Always leave the environment open and receptive so that everyone can offer their opinions, create discussion meetings about the event before it even starts producing. Observe people's reactions to each idea discussed.

Always listen to any and all criticisms about your work. Whether positive or negative, something can be learned from it. Everything can be improved, perfected, adapted and adjusted according to each situation, scenario or expectation. Always view criticism as a way to evolve professionally. And also hear from your team what they think about your work.

When I was in college, I used to host be in charge if organizing events for the Student Section of The National Parks and Recreation Association. And I quickly learned that if I wanted to get university students to attend, I had to get creative. I asked myself what students want. It was food in this case. I asked myself what students need. It was career advice and future job opportunities. I spoke to my peers, professors, and mentors as well. The events we successful because we gave the students what they wanted. And I crafted a clear and persuasive message that I knew would hit home with my target audience.

Learn to read people. A stressed and irritated customer isn't always because of something you did, they simply already have a problem. Always try to offer a safe, calm and peaceful environment for your team and partners. Offer to listen and better understand their pains, needs and desires. Know how to manage when something doesn't go as expected. Understand when a customer gets angry about something they did. Check to see if it's really your fault or if he gave you some wrong information because he was already in a difficult time. We know that producing an event generates a lot of stress. You don't need to be one more.
