Making conscious efforts to put yourself out there to help others, and participate in community learning aligned with your goals, will help you expand your network beyond your team or organization. Regularly share your expertise and collaborate with others, investing time in fostering genuine relationships. This positions you as a valuable contributor, making it easier for others—including your boss—to recognize and advocate for your achievements.

Create and track value, and make sure you communicate it regularly with the people who can approve your compensation package. In your last project, what value was created? How much time did your actions save? How much money did your contribution generate? How many people did it help? While getting paid at the current going rate is a good target, getting paid for the value you created is a better sell. If you compete at the level everyone else is playing at, you will get the compensation everyone else is getting. However, if you create more value than everyone else, then you should be able to effectively advocate for yourself, with irrefutable evidence.
