When I think about an individual explaining their knowledge and experience in programming, I often think about how students will explain a concept. One of the biggest pieces of advice I can give someone, is be honest. Don't try to fake your way through something as others will instantly pick up on the fact that you are unsure about that topic. Be confident in your explainations about what you do know. If you have programmmed in many languages, focus on the language that you are most comfortable in. Many programmers will know that if you are strong in a language you can adapt that to a new language, but if you don't know the basics, it is hard to pick up new languages. Talk about a program you have done recently and the concepts of it.

Mock interviews are gold for interview prep! Grab a friend or use online platforms. Simulate the pressure: explain your thought process aloud while coding on a whiteboard (or similar). For example, during a practice session, I tackled a two-sum problem in Python. I walked through my logic for finding pairs that add up to a target sum, then coded it step-by-step, explaining time complexity along the way. This practice exposed areas for improvement before the real interview.

Most companies don't require someone with magical tech skills. They are only looking for someone that can accomplish the job and of the key characteristics of an accomplisher is his communication skill. So always maintain an interactive interview. Don't speak too much or the interviewer won't have enough time to measure his required skills. On the other hand don't speak to few or the interviewer won't get enough data about skills he considered. Follow these simple steps abd you'll succeed in every interview you take part.

Effective communication in a programming interview indicates your ability to think though problems systematically, and then arriving at the best solution. If you voice your thought process, or why you went with a particular approach, draw examples from previous projects and convey a clear understanding of concepts, it demonstrates your ability to think on spot, reflect, and answer. Simplify technical concepts and don't use more technical vocabulary to explain them if it adds to complexity. Simplifying complex concepts and communicating them clearly demonstrates your ability to align your team.

It's not always about the questions the interviewer(s) ask. It's about the atmosphere. The instant responses you have to make within seconds. No one can memorize a definite answer to all possible questions. So you must develop the skill to come up with an instant response. It's a balance between speed and quality. You're not required to deliver the master work in the interview. So cut some details to provide a solution faster. One can provide an appropriate solution, can consider details and edge cases during enough time period and the interviewer knows it. This skill is only gained during a real experience and its not something that can be learned by just reading books and articles.

Ancients say fear will kill you and an interview is not an exception. Try to provide the most appropriate solution you can not the master work. It's not required to provide a clustering mechanism for distributing 100 nodes if that company has only 3 production nodes. If provide an over qualified solution, then interview will take longer and interviewer will skip some questions that he wanted to ask you. At that point they attempt to make some "guess" about your skills instead of measuring them during the interview.

Writing pseudocode demonstrates your problem solving capabilities and your ability to simplify complex problems before you jump to the solution. It also helps you systematically approach the problem you code. Carefully understand the problem, identify inputs, outputs, constraints and edge cases. Break it into manageable components and write the pseudocode using simple language. Don't worry about the syntax now, and purely focus on logic. Analyze your pseudocode to see if can handle potential scenarios for the problem you want to solve. The key here is not producing the perfect code, but approaching the problem systematically.
