My shotlist is never by-the-book and I tell this to my cinematographer in advance. Typically as we film, the shots consolidate itself which leads to our shooting days becoming shorter.

Sometimes what you need isn't available. I've run into this with public locations frequently, where businesses wouldn't allow filming on their property. The best way to get around such restrictions I've found is to get creative with what you have access to. Your employer may allow you to use their parking garage for a scene. I even got the permission of a storage facility I rented at to film in their halls. A director I worked with once staged a rickety industrial elevator scene in his garage using a fake elevator we made from foam board and wood paneling. It's all about getting creative.

The reality is this happens all the time. You must be flexible. Gather the team, review the rewrite for the scene at hand, update your shot list, run it with the cast while the DP watches the new blocking or changes and film. It is what it is. You can't be scared of it and sometimes it can turn out to be a positive.
