Facing technical issues integrating RPA with legacy systems?
When Robotic Process Automation (RPA) meets older technology, the mesh isn't always perfect. Here's how to ensure a seamless integration:
- Assess compatibility early. Identify potential issues by analyzing how RPA tools interact with your existing systems.
- Engage IT support. Utilize your tech team's expertise to troubleshoot and fine-tune the integration process.
- Plan for gradual implementation. Start small and scale up, allowing time for adjustments and learning curves.
What strategies have worked for you in integrating new technologies with older systems?

Try to look at the problem from a different angle and optimize the process you are trying to automate. Often, you'll find that the task can be done differently, or that someone in the company is already doing it another way. It may sound silly, but there's a good chance that the process doesn't need to be automated at all, which could help you avoid technical issues. Alternatively, you could try other RPA tools – there are many available on the market. They may look similar at first glance, but they differ in the details.

Every RPA tool is having issue with legacy Systems. Before choosing any RPA tool best way to do POC and do the R&D is the best practice.

I can suggest a few useful checks before going to integrate with legacy systems. ? Use of API Wrappers Legacy systems often lack modern APIs, making direct integration difficult. You can create custom API wrappers that can act as an intermediary monkey between the RPA tool & the legacy system. ? Database Integration Writing SQL queries or using database connectors can allow RPA to interact with the system’s data layer directly. ? Collaborate with Legacy System Experts Experts insights can be invaluable in identifying integration points & avoiding common pitfalls. ? Incremental Approach Implement RPA in phases, starting with less critical processes. This reduces the risk of major disruptions. I hope it helps you.

Facing technical issues integrating RPA with legacy systems? I've been there, and it’s a common challenge. The key is to start with a thorough assessment of your legacy infrastructure and identify potential integration points. Use API-based connectors where possible, and consider a phased approach to gradually modernize your systems. It’s also crucial to work closely with both your RPA and IT teams to ensure clear communication and address issues proactively. Remember, patience and persistence are your allies in overcoming these integration hurdles.

Would love to hear examples of 'legacy' systems which don't integrate to be honest! If we remove the term legacy and assume the system does not connect easily with the likes of Zapier, Make and other integration platforms, let's assume the system has API functions. Utilise using web-hooks, HTTP requests and raw Payloads to manually set up the automations (that is if you are transferring actions outside of the system). If uncertain or facing repeat errors, Chat GPT can act as a great virtual assistant for highlighting errors in code or strategy and suggesting alternatives.
