Stakeholders support what they help build—Even when time is short, don’t cut the power lines on which your own success depends. Decisions are only as viable as the power to see them through. Bake in stakeholder engagement through formal channels, such as governance. Formal can still be fast: 1. Forecast high-stakes decisions by interleaving key project milestones with governance. Convene special sessions, as needed, for deeper dives. 2. Use two-way communication techniques to invite and synthesize input. 3. Report back on what you decided, why, and what’s next. Legitimacy is important long-term: For people on whom downstream success depends to accept a decision as legitimate, they must view the decision process itself as legitimate.

? Time-Sensitive Decisions? Keep Stakeholders in the Loop! ???? ?? Schedule Regular Updates – No one likes surprise plot twists (except in movies). Keep check-ins short but impactful. ?? ?? Use Multiple Channels – Email, Slack, carrier pigeon—whatever gets the message across. ????? ?? Be Transparent – If decisions impact stakeholders, let them in on the why before they start reading between the lines. ??? Clear, timely communication keeps everyone aligned (and prevents inbox meltdowns).

Executives managing time-sensitive decisions must proactively develop strategic communication and crisis plans. These collaborative plans should include regular stakeholder feedback points and scheduled meetings to address pain points for efficiency and mitigating risks. A successful communications plan acknowledges the actionable details and time windows for each stakeholder with the most appropriate contact channels to ensure rapid deliberation and action processes. When those systems are impeded, an effective crisis plan ensures business continuity and operational excellence throughout disruptions. The same processes intended for safeguarding value in times of uncertainty may be applied to capture value from unexpected opportunities.
