When an emerging leader faces a challenging negotiation, it's essential to provide them with the necessary support and guidance. By offering tailored advice, practicing negotiation scenarios, providing resources, creating a supportive environment, and celebrating successes, you can empower them to navigate the complexities of the negotiation process confidently. This not only strengthens their leadership skills but also fosters a positive and productive working relationship.

In my leadership role, I've guided many new leaders through the intricacies of client negotiations. My strategy emphasizes skill enhancement and building confidence. I've found that active listening is crucial—it helps me grasp the client's perspective, leading to better solutions. Aligning the new leader's goals with the client's ensures a collaborative approach. I always prepare thoroughly, considering all potential scenarios, which makes me proactive rather than reactive. Practicing difficult dialogues and refining through feedback has sharpened my negotiation abilities. Moreover, valuing clear communication and empathy is vital in resolving conflicts, balancing the technical and human elements of the negotiation.

Além de dividir a responsabilidade dessa decis?o/negocia??o difícil, com outros mais experientes, é fundamental pensar em outros cenários, ajustar a perspectiva atual com outra diferente, para que possa facilitar a decis?o do cliente.

Thanks to the negotiation coaching I have received over the years from gurus like Professor Ingemar Dierckx, I would first ask this emerging leader if they would like me to work with them on this negotiation. Make it their choice - they are unlikely to say no, but if they do, that's an interesting insight! If they agree that they would appreciate some support, emphasize asking them questions rather than telling them what to do. The socratic method soften a better approach than "just to do this". Important points to ask about: - what is the best, most desirable outcome? what is unacceptable? - how much do you know about the counterparty? how can you find out more so that you will have as much information as possible about what they want?
