Educator's are rarely turned off by doing the right thing for kids. Teachers will adopt technology when they see benefits. The challenge for educators is the vast amount of technology available to use in classrooms combined with limited research supporting technologies impact. Research suggests teachers using technology have greater outcomes than teachers not using technology, but that is most likely a result of the manner in which the teacher uses the technology for instruction. Technology for technology sake is never a solution, but technology in the hands of a highly qualified teacher is priceless. Teachers who find benefits in using technology will share with others and global adoption will increase.

Take educators' concerns seriously. Edtech has a reputation for not improving student engagement or achievement. This is true because many Edtech products are foundational in nature, and their effectiveness is based on how well the product is integrated with the curriculum. Maybe the tool isn't worth the effort to integrate it. Maybe there is a different tool with a better ROIT (return on invested time). Focus on high payback areas, such as the most boring units or confusing units.

Consider this: Don't aim for immediate universal buy-in; focus on strategic adoption. Identify influential staff members and those easier adopters to champion change. Prioritize building buy-in from key groups, making it easier for peers to follow. Ditch one-size-fits-all PD; leverage implementation science to scale bye-in. Remember, full adoption by year-end is a marathon, not a sprint. Focus on strategic momentum, not universal consensus.

I believe one of the best way to get educators to feel comfortable about using new technology is to have real world proof points. And the best way to have proof points is coming from actual educators who can provide more than just testimonials. When other educators can "educate" others about the benefits of the new technology and how it is being used in their day to day, this can help address concerns.
-
1. Focus on Enhancing, Not Replacing. Show them how it will help them not replace them. 2. Professional Development and Ongoing Support of the new technology and the old technology. 3. Alignment with Student Success Goals. Keep it simple and aligned to your Core Values. 4. Flexibility in Implementation. Pilot the process with the willing and show the others how it will help them. 5. Clear Communication and Feedback. Make sure the teachers and staff understand why we are implementing new technology. Addressing these concerns head-on and creating a supportive environment, will help ease into the transition to new technology and help everyone see its potential for enhancing the great work we already doing in the classroom.
