Balancing software demands in 3D printing while meeting deadlines requires efficient tool use and strategic planning. In our Ti64 scaffold project, we used Materialise for mesh refinement and nTop for lattice optimization, enabling faster, precise designs without compromising quality. By leveraging these tools, we reduced manual intervention and validated lattice structures through simulation, ensuring print accuracy. Parallel tasks, like documentation and testing, were completed during software processing to maximize productivity. When designing for 3D printing, I optimize according to additive technology. First, I define with the customer what the product must satisfy, select the additive technology and material, and only then proceed to the construction. When I construct, I have in my head how it will be done on a 3D printer, what will be the optimal orientation and how to avoid technological problems as well as an unnecessary support structure. I must point out that previous construction experience and the number of completed projects help. For me, there is no compromise on quality, it must be top in accordance with ISO 13485 and MDR. Medical devices know nothing but top quality, so I apply that to other projects outside of medicine as well.

Quality is non-negotiable. Deadlines are. I would never sacrifice quality to get a job done quicker. My reputation is built on quality, not how quickly I can get a parcel mailed out.

There are two aspects to this question, specific 3d modelling software on one hand, where you might need a specific software to be able to reach specific model requirements, like engineering pieces with something like Fusion360 or Solidworks, parametric modelling with Rhino & Grasshopper, or organic modelling with something like Zbrush, Maya or Blender. The other part of this equation is choosing the right slicer. I'm a big fan and supporter of Lychee and Bambustudio, but for some printers Prusaslicer or Superslicer really help, being open source and all. Lychee is really helpful in saving all my parameters in the cloud, and to help me customize SLA supports. Bambu is great for adjusting for different fillaments.
