Popular trends just come and go and you have to be consistent with your own unique vision in order to build a long standing career in photography. If you identify yourself with a trend, it will soon pass and people will put a label on you and recognize for that particular look that once was the hit of moment –but not anymore. Of course, you can sure find ways to use something interesting from that look if it helps you to grow and evolve your vision as a photographer, that uniqueness that makes your style. Again, trends come and go in a short time but, on the other hand, your vision is the work of a lifetime. A trend is just a trend, but is not a style: that’s the difference.

Balancing popular photography trends with your unique style can be tricky. Trends trends are, by nature, fleeting, and while they may offer opportunities to stay relevant, it’s crucial not to lose sight of your personal touch. The heart of your work should reflect your artistic voice, not just what's currently popular. Adapting to trends is fine as long as you do so in a way that complements your style rather than overpowering it. Ask yourself: Does this trend enhance or dilute my vision? Staying true to your creative identity while being aware of trends ensures your work remains authentic, recognizable, and ultimately timeless.

Always keep your core style and vision at the forefront. Trends come and go, but your unique perspective sets you apart. Use trends as inspiration and choose elements of trends that complement your style. Don’t be afraid to experiment with new trends in your personal projects. This allows you to explore and adapt trends in a low-pressure environment before introducing them to client work. When working with clients, communicate your style and how you can integrate current trends into their vision. Stay updated with industry trends through workshops, online courses, and photography communities. Use a mix of your signature style and current trends to show potential clients that you are versatile while maintaining your personal touch.

I believe there’s always a way to incorporate fresh ideas without losing what makes my work unique. When a trend aligns with my style or adds value, I’ll explore it, but I’ll adapt it through my own creative lens. This way, I stay relevant without compromising the individuality that clients expect from me. Balancing both lets me evolve while keeping my signature approach at the core.
