??Making time for self care as a nonprofit leader it’s not about you. It’s about how you lead your organization, treat your people and maintain integrity. ??When you take care of yourself, you’re better able to make decisions decisively, maintain your composure, even during challenging and stressful times and be able to have an empathy for your people. ?Self-care is not about bubble baths and massages or binging on Netflix at the end of the day. ?Self-care for nonprofit leaders is about stepping away from the computer for a few moments, making sure you’ve noticed your body mind and soul, taking a little walk and rested during your workday. Self-care as a leader does not happen at the end of the day it happens throughout the day !

As non-profit leaders, we must model making time for self-care for our teams. If our teams never see us prioritizing self-care, they likely won't do it themselves. It means taking time off when you're sick, using your PTO, and taking vacations where you unplug and disconnect from the work. I usually take a mid-day workout break and my teams know that I do this - it sets an example, but also gives me the space I need for self-care.

One strategy that has worked for me is to not look at my emails or take calls past a certain hour each evening. In addition, I have disabled notifications related to work emails and texts. Not only does this help me set aside time for self care, it models with my team that habit for their own well-being, as they usually know I won't respond after a certain time.
