Differentiate between autonomy and independence. Ask the researchers to do quality, independent research. But remind everyone of the *common* goals the team is working toward. Independent research needs to support the common goals. Individual conversations/reviews may be needed.

One thing that I find really helpful is, effective communication through active listening to each person in the team. It is very necessary for team cohesion to make sure that every individual in the team is heard. And then as a leader choosing the best after bringing in consensus among team. That way one can come to the best possible conclusion/solution.

I believe that allowing the team members to communicate their ideas and delegating responsibilities strategically to meet the goals of the project can strike the right balance.

To balance individual autonomy and team cohesion in research projects, encourage open communication and clearly define roles while allowing flexibility for personal input. Foster a collaborative environment where each member’s expertise is valued, but ensure that project goals and deadlines are aligned. Regular check-ins help maintain focus and accountability while respecting individual contributions.

Each individual should be heard and given that space to showcase their talent and opinion about the subjects. After all it's team work and coordination is key for the success of the project. One should follow a systematic channel to communicate and track the individual targets to meet the collective goal of the team.
