Understand the company's overall strategy and clearly see how your engineering team's work contributes to it. Regular communication between engineering and business leaders is key to this alignment. This ongoing dialogue ensures that projects are not only technically robust but also advance the company's broader goals. When both engineering and business are on the same page, decision-making becomes more streamlined and mutually beneficial.

One working model of alignment with product organization that I find working is splitting time between prod and tech tasks. For example, every quarter, we spend 50% of time on product work, 30% on tech tasks, and 20% on BAU time ( bugs, unexpected items, etc.). Of course there will be rebalancing from quarter to quarter, but such split motivates both parts respect work they need to do during planning time.
