As a leader, it's essential to balance autonomy and guidance by understanding each team member's unique strengths and preferences. I encourage open communication, set clear goals, and provide the necessary resources while allowing flexibility in how tasks are approached. Regular check-ins help me gauge their comfort levels and offer support when needed. By fostering collaboration and adapting my leadership style, I empower my team to thrive independently while ensuring they know I'm here to guide them when required.

I think the most important point is and will always be the communication. You need to communicate well and clear in order to: - make them know what do you expect from them - establish clear communication path, together with measurable objectives - always be ready to listen and understand challenges of the position/ tasks they are doing and finally 2 key points that help in any leadership situation: - empowerment with a "can do attitude" - trust in them and make them know they can do it - continuous feedback to reinforce good developments or even correct those that are not moving in the right direction

I typically use the Situational Leadership framework to balance autonomy and guidance by assessing where each team member falls within the four quadrants: Directing, Coaching, Supporting, and Delegating. For this a clear objective needs to be given. Some colleagues need more guidance due to their experience or commitment levels, while others require less. I collaborate with my team to analyze where they stand, ensuring each person gets the leadership style they need. Applying too much or too little guidance can demotivate them, so it's crucial to adjust my approach—offering structure to those needing direction and more autonomy to those ready to take the lead.

Balancing autonomy with guidance involves understanding each team member's strengths, preferences, and development needs. Start by setting clear expectations and goals, providing a framework within which team members can operate independently. Encourage open communication, allowing team members to seek guidance when needed while trusting them to make decisions within their areas of expertise. Regularly check in to offer support and feedback, adjusting the level of guidance based on individual progress and confidence. Foster a culture of continuous learning, where team members feel empowered to take initiative and innovate, knowing they have the support they need to succeed.
